Delhi, the capital of kingdoms and empires, is now a sprawling metropolis with a fascinating blend of the past and the present. Delhi is a city that bridges two different worlds. Old Delhi, once the capital of Islamic India, is a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with crumbling havelis and formidable mosques. In contrast, the imperial city of New Delhi, created by the British Raj, is composed of spacious, tree-lined avenues and imposing government buildings. Delhi is a perfect introduction to the composite culture of an ancient land and a window to the kaleidoscope - that is India.
Later in the day, after wash and change, proceed for a combined city tour of Old and New Delhi.
The tour will begin with a visit to Rajghat, a simple memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, considered to be the Father of the Nation.
This will be followed by a drive past the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid.
The tour will continue to New Delhi, a legacy left by the British, who built this as their capital. This will be an orientation tour with a visit to India Gate, drive past Rashtrapati Bhawan - the President`s residence- Parliament House and Government Buildings. This tour will also include a visit to Humayun`s Tomb.
The tour of Delhi continues to Imperial Delhi which includes the Qutub Minar, the tallest stone tower in India.
